Closeup of statue

The purpose of this memorial is to make citizens aware of the sacrifice that police officers have made while ensuring the peace and safety of this city. It will also serve as a reminder, to all police officers, of the ultimate sacrifice that some have made, and that others may make in the future, as they protect the citizens of Grand Rapids.

The Memorial is located in the atrium of the Grand Rapids Police Department. Elements include an engraved wall of blue glass silhouetting the Grand Rapids downtown skyline, a flag at half-mast, and the names and faces of those who have fallen in the line of duty, along with a life-size bronze sculpture of a Grand Rapids police officer. The statue stands alert, around the clock, ready to protect the honor and memory of fallen comrades. The Memorial will be illuminated by a blue laser light, which represents the "Thin Blue Line" that officers are asked to walk upon during their tour of duty.
